Pick and Pack 2.0

A computer vision-based packing device was developed for gategroup to support the refilling of aircraft service trolleys in airport logistics hubs.

Designed as a removable tool placed directly onto the trolleys during packing, the device integrates seamlessly into existing catering workflows. The project explored how staff work, pack and navigate complex airline-specific requirements, identifying opportunities to reduce manual processes and packing errors.

The project explored how staff work, pack and navigate complex airline-specific requirements, identifying opportunities to reduce manual processes and packing errors.

The resulting Pick & Pack Station 2.0 automatically recognizes trolley configurations, detects consumed products and guides staff through the correct packing process for each airline and destination. The project was developed and presented at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo 2026 in April 2026.
